Call for Papers
The goal of this track is to fill the gap between academic research in Requirements Engineering (RE) and industrial needs by providing a venue dedicated to industrial research and innovation. Being on the cusp of hyper-personalization in this era of Industry 4.0 presents interesting prospects for our field in terms of customers’ expectations with respect to products and services and encourages us to revisit our assumptions about “how RE should be done.” In keeping with the RE 18 theme, Crossing Boundaries and Increasing Impact, we invite authors from academia and industry – both large corporations and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) – to submit original contributions reporting on the innovative development and application of RE solutions in industrial, government, or open-source settings, as well as the development of novel engineering tools to enable the use of RE in such contexts.
Examples Include:
- Novel, scalable, and cost-effective methodologies and tools
- Industrial case studies with valuable lessons learned
- Experience reports providing novel insights
- Analysis and comparison of the state of the art across multiple companies
- Experiences in transitioning from, or merging of, product to services
Each paper should provide clear take-away value by describing the context of a problem of practical, industrial importance, and the development and application of an innovative solution. The paper should discuss why the solution of the problem is innovative, effective, or efficient and what likely practical impact it has or will have; it should provide a concise explanation of the approach, techniques, and methodologies employed; and explain the best practices that emerged, tools developed, and/or software processes involved. Studies reporting on negative findings must provide a thorough discussion of the potential causes of failure, and ideally a perspective on how to solve them. The best paper award winning author(s) will be invited to submit an extended version of their work for a special issue of the Requirements Engineering Journal (REJ).

Submission Instructions
In order to guide the reviewing process, all authors who intend to submit a paper must first submit the title, abstract (max. 200 words) and author information of their paper. Abstracts are used only to point out your interest to submit a full paper and to allow us to initiate the search for possible reviewers early in time.
Papers must describe original work that has not been previously published or submitted elsewhere.
Submissions must be written in English and formatted according to the IEEE formatting instructions.
Papers must not exceed 10 pages, plus a maximum of two additional pages for references. Papers that exceed the length specification or are not formatted correctly will be rejected without review. It is acceptable to reference additional content (i.e., data repositories, source code for open source tools, etc.) by providing a corresponding URL hosted on an institutional, archive-grade site.
Please note that only full paper submissions will be peer reviewed. Abstract-only submissions will be discarded without further notice after the submission deadline.

Please submit your Industry papers in PDF format via EasyChair. Select the RE'18 Industrial Innovation Track for your submission.
Paper Evaluation Acceptance
All submitted papers will be evaluated through a competitive peer-review process. Papers will be judged considering the criteria of industrial relevance, novelty of research results, soundness and adoption of scientific rigor, clarity and conciseness of presentation, compliance with conference scope and topics of interest.
Accepted papers may require editing for clarity prior to publication and presentation. They will appear in the IEEE Digital Library. At least one author of each accepted paper must attend the conference in order to present their paper.
